In
terms of what I learned from the research findings, they clearly show that the
majority of the respondents in this research study are non-smokers and did not
experience health problems. Whilst there is the minority who are smokers and
started smoking at a young age, this remains a concern and must be tackled by
encouraging them to quit with awareness of the problems associated with
smoking.
I was
satisfied with the results extracted which provided me with a variety of
responses which indicate that the level of smokers at the Abu Dhabi Men’s
College is relatively low, however the fact remains most of these smokers who
have been smoking from a young age will possibly experience health problems in
their later life.
With
regards to the background research on this topic, one can observe that smoking
medwakh or dokha in the U.A.E has become a popular trend which is seen to
surpass both genders (male and female).
The fact that the first time smokers started smoking when they were 14
years old illustrates that smoking is seen to be charming for them where it
soon becomes an addiction. Furthermore, with regards to the trends pertaining
to adults smoking seems high. The reasons for an increase in smoking medwakh or
dokha are seen to be alluring for smokers since there is a variety for them to
choose from. For the younger generation it is mainly about looking cool and
being accepted in their social circle. Lastly, the research findings indicates
that smoking causes various health problems and risks. Most of the university
students who were frequently smoking dokha were well aware of the fact that it
was an unhealthy habit, but continued to smoke and stated they did not feel
unhealthy smoking.
From
the questionnaire findings not only is it addresses the current problem of
smoking and briefly evaluating the health problems associated with it and by
proposing the reasonable measures to discourage students from smoking and
understanding the problems associated with smoking. I believe my research questions are conclusive
and fulfil the research criteria.
